Charles Edward Jackson, 20, of East Chicago, Ind., from Bravo Co., 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 196th Light Infantry Brigade, Americal Division, was hit by sniper fire during a firefight in the Hiep Duc Valley, 35 miles south of Danang. Jackson, who had been in Vietnam only three weeks and with Bravo Co. only a couple of days, died on the spot. The valley was the site of some of the fiercest fighting of the war between Americans and North Vietnamese Army (NVA) regulars. |
